Benefits of New Patio Doors

new patio doorsMore than many places in the country, DFW Metroplex residents spend time on their patios. Some have pools, other outdoor kitchens, and some watch the kids play in the back yard. Whatever reason spend outside, do you ever get frustrated when you try to use your patio door? Is it hard to open? Heavy? Does it get stuck in the track? Perhaps it’s time for new patio doors. There are many new styles and options in modern patio doors that may benefit your home.

Patio Door Styles

Although most patio doors are traditional sliding doors with one stationary door and one that moves, that’s not the only option. With new lighter materials, there are many options that provide different benefits.

  • French style patio doors – if you prefer a more formal look, a French door may be the right choice for your space. French doors open into your space so they do require a bit more open floor space than a sliding door. One of the things people love about French doors is the option for the blinds between glass (BBG) for increased privacy without additional blinds.
  • Bi-fold patio doors – these come in two to eight panels giving you the ability to really open up a space without needing too much space inside the home. Like French doors, some have the option of BBG. This is one of the most modern approaches to patio doors. The drawback is that if they open directly to the outdoors, there really isn’t a good option for a screen.
  • Sliding doors – the most traditional and common option, however, they come in larger sizes and some have multiple sliding panels. They are still a favorite because of the amount of light they let in and the ability to have an unobstructed view.

Why Replace Your Patio Doors

Perhaps you already have sliding doors and don’t see the point in replacing your existing doors with the same thing, but the other options won’t work for you. There are several good reasons to replace yours. First, if they’re more than ten years old, they’re likely not energy efficient. New patio doors are better sealed and help keep your home more comfortable than older ones. They’re lighter, yet just as strong as old metal frame doors. This keeps your home safe while making it easier for you or your kids to open the door themselves.

However, if you’re considering a home renovation… Continue Reading
